A Princess in Berlin

A story about the decadence of society while leading up to the war, followed by a different, but related, flavour of decadence, once the war is underway. We tend to forget about profiteers because they always hide themselves so well. But they are there, working silently to fill their own pockets. Meanwhile, the average person cannot get bread, and has to sleep somewhere cold every night. After I read this book I wanted to find more books by this author about wartime. But found out that his other books are about a legal practice in the United States. I will still try them because if they are as good as the book being reviewed, it will not matter that they were not about the expected subject.

קראתי את הספר פעם ראשונה לפני כשלושים שנה כאשר הופיע. אז הייתה לי דעה מאוד טובה עליו, היום דעתי קצת פחות טובה. עדיין הספר קריא מאוד ומעניין מאוד. אבל הוא נתקע על קרני הדילמה של כל רומן היסטורי - מה קודם הרצון לספר את ההיסטוריה או הרצון לספר סיפור. כאן הרצון לספר את ההיסטוריה של משטר ויימר חזקה הרבה יותר וכתוצאה מכך הסיפור סובל. הוא לא אמין ומכני במקרים רבים, הדמויות דו ממדיות ולא משכנעות, והטריקים שמזיזים את show more העלילה ברורים מדי ומרובים מדי. show less

קריאה טובה ומהנה. הרבה עובדות על שנות העשרים בברלין, כולל הופעה של אנשים אמיתיים כברכט ואחרים.
תיאורי האינפלציה מעניינים במיוחד. כנ"ל לגבי עליית הימין והתדרדרות הויכוח הציבורי.

Por recomendación de un amigo "maestro" de historia, y realmente de acuerdo en su tesis sobre que debería ser de lectura obligada para conocer y comprender el surgimiento del nazismo y por tanto la 2ª GM
