I was sucked into the story within the first few pages. Alexandra is a deputy DA in Los Angeles County. Her father is the District Attorney. As she is visiting her mother in the hospital, a nurse tells her Erica Collins, another patient wants to talk to her. Erica tells a tale of her ex-husband killing his best friend and the District Attorney, her father was bribed to cover it up. Alexandra is in a real quandary. Is this woman telling the truth? Is she trying to get back at a man who divorced her and married someone else? Her father is up for reelection is Erica trying to derail the election? Alexandra begins to dig to come up with the truth.
One of the best books I have read in quite awhile, really enjoyed it - will be looking for her other two books.
The story follows similar vein to Connelly's and Patterson's; we have a murder/crime mystery and a talented deputy DA who doesn't give up easily.
Well paced, well written and thoroughly enjoyable.
Couldn't stand to put it down, ended up reading all 380 pages in one evening.

Absolute and utter shite. Apart from the dreadful proof reading which allowed so many anomolies to get into print - i.e. at one point a certain character was twenty-three years old, at another she was seventeen, the author had a terrible case of mixing her metaphors - Gladiators with guns??? I despair at the reviews given and am so glad I can only afford to buy books at op shops. My son and I normally share books but I told him I wouldn't inflict him with this one. Does anyone have a theory, or know why, such books are reviewed favourbly by reviewers?
