I had mixed feelings about this book after reading it. But I didn’t like the writing of the story. The writing was kind of confusing because it starts off with the full name of the main characters grandmother, but I feel like many readers are confused when reading her name. I had to read the first 2 sentences in order to understand it a little more, but was confused whether it was the grandmothers name or the main characters name which is why I am saying the writing of the book was confusing. After reading further a long I realized it was the grandmothers name and that the main characters name was Lucy. Then, there were other parts in the story that was kind of confusing because it was like the grandmother would do something, but then she would not do the other thing. Overall, it was confusing. The language of the book was a mix of some Spanish and then mainly English, but I think the author should have written the name in English next to the Spanish word so some children who don’t know Spanish can understand the story more. Then, again I can understand why that may also not be a good idea, but maybe put the words in Spanish at the end of the book with the English word and definition. What I liked the most was the illustrations of the book because you see Lucy and her grandmother always together and the colors are so bright and overall everything is very colorful and they include culture patterns. I don’t think I would use this book for my class, but I wouldn’t tell my students that it is a bad book either because I think it was still an interesting and very colorful book that probably catches many readers eyes as it did with me. Lucy and her grandmother have a wonderful relationship. The only problem is that her grandmother forgets things. Most of the things her grandmother remembers such as her family in Mexico or her grandchildren. She forgets small things such as toast in the toaster, or to not walk in the street when the light is red. Lucy learns to deal with her grandma's issues by helping her and making it easier for her to deal with everyday life. This book is great for children learning about Spanish culture and family members with memory loss. ( )

Luciana Maria Isabela Galvez-Molinero is Lucy's grandmother, or "Little Mama." Little Mama forgets many things such as the bread in the toaster, how to tie her shoes, and that a red traffic light means stop. But most important to Lucy is what Little Mama remembers: pouring rivers of cream on Lucy's rice pudding, dancing, and making tortillas for the family. A loving intergenerational story that shows Lucy accepts her grandmother's inevitable senility but still recognizes and loves the essence that she is. ( )

This book is about a girl who likes to go every morning to her grandma bedroom. Grandma shares some stories from Mexico with Lucy.
