Being fat isn't all about the negatives. There are psychological advantages to being fat that can be successful (or not so successful) coping strategies for different issues. If you do not come up with different coping strategies, then if you lose the weight you'll have lost your only coping strategy and will very likely regain the weight in order to deal with things.

I'm surprised it's not more widely read and cited.
While I struggled with some of the ideas in this book, overall I thought it was well written with worthy content. I thought the exercises given for journalling and talking it out were especially good.
some very interesting points about the why and how of weight issues. Worth a read even if you discard half the ideas.
