Description
In March of 1348, the awakening of an ancient evil drives fay creatures from the woods, causes Crowfield Abbey to crumble, and haunts the dreams of the monks, but the demon seems especially drawn to Will, who is beginning to realize the significance of his Sight.Tags

I loved this sequel to The Crowfield Curse. Walsh is very adept at creating moods and detailing relationships. What I loved best were the relationships between the boy, William, the monk, Brother Snail, the hob, a fay creature of the forest, named Brother Walter, and Shadlock, a fay man (elf-like, but an ancient depiction of elves, older than Tolkien's). Though these characters are all very different, they care for and look out for one another. Beautifully written. Highly recommended for readers who enjoy fantasy with a historical (set in 1348 Britain) twist.
I was a bit apprenshive about this. Second books are often not as good as the first and while this had it's moments it came close.
Will is still living at Crowfield Abbey with his friends, still being treated badly. A crack appears in the chapel and they discover that the chapel is disintegrating and dangerous. While clearing the chapel they discover a wooden bowl with warnings written on it. The monks ignore the warnings but Will knows he can't. There's something evil underfoot and he will have to help to defeat it.
It was a very good read, this series is excellent and the historical detail is quite interesting. I would recommend.

I usually just read the first book in a series to see what the buzz is about, and to be able to recommend it (or not). But I really wanted to read more about William and Crowfield Abbey, and this second book did not disappoint.
great book
Read this book as a kid and I love it! I read it once a year at least along with the first book.
