Before John Connor sent him back in time to save Sarah Connor from a T-800 with a grudge, Kyle Reese was just another man fighting to survive in a world overrun by Skynet and its terrifying army of killer cyborgs. Follow Kyle on his journey through the ravaged landscape of 2029, filled with T-800s, HKs, and rogue revolutionaries, to a world previously unimaginable to him--the glittering streets of Los Angeles in 1984! Rising stars Zack Whedon and Andy MacDonald deliver explosive action in both the future and the past in this inspired reimagining of The Terminator. This volume collects The Terminator: 2029 #1-#3 and The Terminator: 1984 #1-#3. * "Reese's gang of survivors is a likeable, hardened bunch who cracks wise in the ruin. Furthermore, Kyle's anecdote about the Terminators' sheer resilience is creepy and evocative."--io9.com… (more)

I don't generally read comics - sorry, graphic novels - so I don't know what to look for or comment on. I'm not even sure if this counts towards my 'read in 2013' tally, but I couldn't resist. The graphics were good, bar that they make Kyle Reese look like Shaggy from Scooby Doo and 1984 Sarah Connor like a Russian shot putter, and the 2029 storyline was intriguing, but why the author-insert character? Who the hell cares about an original character called Ben when there's Kyle and Sarah? I didn't actually mind Ben's love interest Paige, but he reminded me of those really bad teenage fan fiction stories where, say, 'Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor meet Ben, the 'troubled, tough, hilarious' Marty Stu, who saves the day', etc. Also, why save Kyle from death in 1984 - which was a nice twist, initially - only to bump him off later? Pregnant Sarah was a great character, though, once she got rid of the mullet. ( )
