Another very T.H. White book by T.H. White. He has some very negative things to say about organized sports and spectatorship. He's correct, I think.
It is a lovely book, beautifully describing a world which no longer exists, and insisting that there is value in remembering the past. The author captures and records some of the commonplace, mundane, and fleeting fragments of life in the Victorian and Edwardian eras. He tells his story by focusing on the ordinary life, one affected by the important events of the time, but not integral to them. Continued
Nothing particularly bad, but this survey of roughly 1858-1933 through the eyes of a fictional groom seemed a bit contrived and not overly satisfying.

Terence Hanbury White was born on May 29, 1906 in Bombay, India. He attended Cheltenham College, Gloucestershire, and Queen's College, Cambridge. The success of his autobiography, England Have My Bones, allowed him to leave teaching after six years and devote his time to writing. Although he wrote a wide array of novels and some poetry, he is best show more known for The Once and Future King, his four-volume retelling of the legend of King Arthur, which became the basis for both the musical, Camelot, and the Disney film, The Sword in the Stone. White died on January 17, 1964, while returning home from a lecture tour in America. (Bowker Author Biography) show less
