Description
"In Lefty Grove: American Original, Jim Kaplan argues that the Philadelphia Athletics and Boston Red Sox immortal was baseball's greatest pitcher. In the process he tells a riveting story about a singular personality. A miner's son from western Maryland, Grove joined the A's in 1925 and soon ruled baseball with a blinding fastball and a temper to match. After injuring his arm in mid-career, Grove rebuilt himself as a control pitcher who could be downright pleasant. By book's end, you will show more wish you had known Grove, just as surely as you will wish you'd seen him pitch."--BOOK JACKET. show lessTags

Being a very solid biography of one of the greatest pitchers of the '30's. Like a lot of biographers, the author is a little too forgiving of the ugly side of his subject's personality and tries too hard to establish his "all-time greatness".
