I thought this book was boring, but it might be entertaining to a much younger kid who's in an early reader stage. Also, the pictures aren't as captivating as in the other two books by James Ransome. Anyway, Tom goes to visit his friend Sam. Sam "steals" the bike semi-jokingly but Tom was really upset, so they decided to compromise and take turns since Sam is bikeless. After playing, Sam sees and covets a new, blue bike that a different friend has. That's it. Pretty simple and boring but potentially a good lesson for sharing?
NEW RED BIKE by James Ransome is a predictable children book about a young boy who gets a new red bike. It talks about how he rides his bike up and down the road and around in circles He ends up biking to his friends house to show him his new bike and when he gets off to ring the doorbell his bike is magically gone. He looks everywhere for it and realizes that his friend jumped on it and and was riding it without his permition. His friend apologizes and the two boys end up taking turns on the bike. The illustrations in this book are water color and have the pictures cover up both pages. A teacher could use this book in the classroom to talk about sharing and apologizing just like the two boys did in the book .
The New Red Bike is about a little boy named Tom who just got a brand new red bike. He rode it with caution while having two hands on the handlebars and wearing a helmet. He was having a great time riding up and down and all around he didn't want to get off. Tom was so proud of his bike he went over to show his bike to his best friend Sam. As he knocked on Sam's door he was nowhere to be found. He looked up and down and all around and eventually saw Sam on his brand new bike! Tom wasn't very happy when he saw Sam on his bike. Sam was sad when he had to get off but luckily had found a bright blue bike around the corner that nobody wanted anymore. They were both very excited and rode off with joy.

This is a great story for young children show more and learning how to share when they get knew things. I loved how this book had shapes and sounds in it as well so you could imagine Tom riding around on his bike. show less
Tom is happily taking his new red bike out for a spin in his neighborhood, but when he goes to show it off to his friend Sam, it disappears. The few words in this brightly illustrated book pack excitement and a sweet lesson of sharing.
This is an easy book to show little kids how simple and easy sharing is. When some kids receive new things, others might not so it's always best to teach students to share. As they say, sharing is caring! Overall, this was a good easy picture book. The illustrations were great.

This would be a great book for teaching children about bike safety. If you notice in the book, no child is riding the bike without both hands and a helmet. It also shows two children sharing a bike, which is another plus. Overall a cute book for children, especially those who ride bikes.
Ransome wanted the readers to know that you should not leave your personal things unattended and also you should ask before taking something that is not yours. Tom rides his new bike to Sam's house, when he goes to knock on Sam's door Sam doesn't answer. When Tom turns around he see that his bike is missing. Tom looks around and see that Sam is riding it. Tom is upset that Sam didn't ask and made Tom scared that he lost his new bike. Sam apologizes and Tom let Sam ride it by taking turn.
