I absolutely LOVE the way the author ended this book. She could have very easily made me believe a romanticized, fictional account of Miss Potter's wedding. However, she didn't---and I really respect that she didn't detract from what was the most beautiful day of Miss Potter's "real" life by making it more appealing to the reader.

I have spent about a year now trying to get through this series. It was very slow going and I took many breaks along the way to read things that were more fast paced. I finished strong, though, and I'm glad I read them. I'll be keeping this one for my permanent collection. ( )

A fine conclusion to the series... the author's tendency to break the fourth wall is still present, but perhaps not quite as constant. Really enjoyed the wrap-up for Beatrix Potter and Will Heelis and found it interesting to contemplate the way she spent the rest of her life. Her books took a back seat to her passion for the Lake District and her perseverance in buying up farms to preserve the agricultural lifestyle. I found it very satisfying to imagine Beatrix Potter the farmer, with her herd of sheep and her rolling hills. I find her combination of artistry and practicality fascinating, a person I would very much like to know. Anyone who likes the sound of this should definitely view the movie "Miss Potter."
I've strayed from the book, but anyway, it's nice enough to evoke some pleasant thoughts. Mystery not very intriguing. Some humorous bits. ( )

A strong finish for the series ā€” less narrator, excellent points of tension, and a more focused story. I wish Iā€™d been able to listen to these last few as audio books, because I think I would have enjoyed them more, but still, I like how the series leaves them ā€” in a good moment, before war overtakes the world. Synopsis: Beatrix has been ill for quite a while and is now under pressure from her publisher to finish a book. She is also worried about the repairs to her second farm house and wonders if she and her fiance will ever get to move in or even get married. The animals are also dealing with an influx of rats that are openly stealing from the humans, making the dogs and cats look lazy and worthless. And to top it all off, there is a human thief and murderer loose in the village.
Review: This is the last in the series and although there were spots of interest, much was fairly tedious to read. ( )

I picked up this audio book at the library, but unfortunately I had not read any of the previous books. However, that did not stop me from enjoying this book as I was a big fan of Miss Potter's book as a child. Time will tell if I go back and start the series from the beginning, but I'd like to at some point. ( )

Epigraph
My gentle Reader, I perceive
How patiently you've waited.
And now I fear that you expect
Some tale will be related.
O Reader! had you in your mind
Such stores as silent thought can bring,
O gentle Reader! you would find
A tale in everything.

First words
Prologue: Our story begins (as do many very good stories) once upon a time and far, far away, in the year of the Lord 793, in monastery on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, at the eastern rim of the green and beautiful Britannia.
Beatrix Potter put down her pen, pushed her chair back, and stood up.
