I liked this book of poetry for three reasons. First, I loved the rhythm and sound patterns employed by the author. The author wrote each poem to be sang to the tune of a well-known song. For instance, the poem “Take Me Out of the Bathtub,” should be to the tune of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” Then, the poem “Stinky Stinky Diaper Change,” should be to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.” By having the poems be read to the tune of well-known songs, the author creates clear sound patterns and rhythms that flow. In addition, this method helps express the meanings of the poems to be silly rhymes.
In addition, I liked how the poems were all fresh and imaginative. Each poem is different and unique. For example, the show more author wrote a poem called “Sock in the Gravy.” The title alone is distinguishable from other published poems. Then, the reader can find more imaginative and fresh ideas within this poem. For instance, the author wrote, “If you don’t like clothes in your baked beans, don’t cook your food in washing machines!” This quote demonstrates the unique nature of the poem where the author stretches the reader’s imagination. Furthermore, as mentioned previously, these poems are set to the tune of well-known songs. The author’s use of the songs contributes to the imaginative and authentic nature of the poems.
Furthermore, I liked how the illustrations enhanced the book’s silly and fun feelings. There are different illustrations for each poem that take up the space of two full pages. These images range from a baby flying in the air with a stinky diaper to an evil looking poodle in a bathtub. The illustrations take the ideas from the poem and stretch the concepts and ideas even further. For instance, the poem “Ripped My Favorite T-shirt” has a drawing that shows a little boy breaking down the walls of his house in an army tank. Therefore, the illustrations add to the silly and imaginative feelings of the book.
The author’s big idea expressed in this book is that poetry can be silly and exciting to read. Each poem provides entertaining concepts that engage the reader’s imagination. Therefore, the author provides the readers with unique poems that make them laugh and have fun.

Summary:
This collection of children's poetry is written with the intention that each poem be sung to the tune of a familiar (indicated) song such as "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" and "Home, Home on the Range".

Personal Reflection:
I thought this book was hilarious! All the songs are written to appeal to kids (the ideas are ones they can relate to, and the "Yuck" factor is used quite well).

Classroom Extension Ideas:
- Would be a great introduction to poetry to engage children's interest and to dispel any preconceived notions that poetry is boring or all about flowers and love.
- Could be used as a "brain-break" as the songs are ones that most kids know and they would lend themselves well to group participation.
These crazy poems set to well-known tunes are just a hoot! The illustrations are also very whacky to match the tone of the poems. Since each poem is set to the tune of songs, it is easy to sing or read them. Young kids really get a big kick out of the fact that they can figure out how the poem's rhyme is supposed to sound. My favorite is 'Stinky, Stinky Diaper Change', set to the tune of 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. I have used this particular poem for baby shower gag gift attaching it to a real diaper full of Whoppers! ha! Okay, so these poems are weird, but most people get a real kick out of them!
A collection of silly poems set to the tune of popular children's songs. Catchy songs and descriptive writing come together to create each of these poems. The absurd, sometimes gross poems and over the top, colorful illustrations are sure to produce many giggles from readers. Simply a fun book to read.

This poetry book is full of new poems set to old familiar songs. Each poem tells you what tune to sing it to. It highlights issues kids deal with, like tripping over shoe laces or siblings. It also has things that interest children, gross things like food fights and stinky diapers.

I couldn’t help but sing Take Me Out of the Bathtub to the tune of Take Me Out to the Ballgame. I love how he puts each of the poems to tunes the reader probably already knows. The illustrations are wonderful. The picture of the baby covered in food (from The Yogurt Flies Straight from My Brother) literally made me laugh out loud. And I loved at the end of Stinky, Stinky Diaper change, when they get the baby all clean and then “what’s that smell? show more Oh…not again!” You just know that is inevitably what happens.

You could use this book in classroom extension just for some fun time or to introduce poetry. It could also encourage children to come up with their own poetry about things they know and putting it to a familiar song.

I remember being read this book when I was younger and really enjoying it. Take Me Out of the Bathtub is a book that takes old nursery rhymes and changes the words. Each song is turned into a funny story about typical childish behaviors. There is a song about bath time, carsickness, going to bed, cleaning your room, and even diaper changes. I think this book is just a fun story to read to children to make them smile and laugh. Children know most nursery rhymes, so they would be able to sing along to the songs. This is just a fun book and would be enjoyed by all children.
Summary:
This book is filled with riddles and nursery rhymes. The fun part about this book is that the words of the traditional nursery rhymes are changed to fun and silly words.

Personal Reaction:
This book is a great way to get kids into poetry. I love the cute new versions of the traditional rhymes.

Classroom Extensions:
1) You could read this book to introduce a fun lesson on poetry.
2) You could also have the students make up there own words to a nursery rhyme and make it their own.
