A nicely put-together compilation of the Superman Sunday newspaper comic strips from 1939 to 1943. The artwork, especially in the earlier months, is pretty basic, but it improves. The storylines are not particularly suspenseful; they mainly pit the Man of Steel against ordinary people. Every story seems to involve Lois Lane getting in trouble, forcing Superman to drop everything to rescue her. The dialogue and supposed humor are pretty bland. An interesting version of Lex Luthor does appear here. Other than that, the main interest of this book is historical. The stories have come a long way in 70 years. ( ) no reviews | add a review
Along with the daily comics he starred in six days a week, Superman also appeared on Sundays in full-page, action-packed extravaganzas bursting with colour. Like its companion volume, this hardcover volume also comes in a slipcase. No library descriptions found. |
