Shopping for a new pair of shoes, a lunchbox, and snacks worth sharing are all making Ivy Green very excited for the first day of school. Soon though, Ivy starts to imagine all of the things that could go wrong. What if she misses the bus or can't find her classroom? Little does Ivy know, even teachers, bus drivers, and janitors are all anxiously preparing for the first day of school. Everyone goes to sleep the night before school starts and dream of all the terrible things that could happen. When morning finally comes, they all arrive to school and their minds are put to ease when everything goes exactly as planned.
I think everyone can relate to how the characters' emotions change from the beginning to the end of this book. At some show more point in our educational journey, we've all felt nervous or overwhelmed for the first day of school. I love how the book showed teachers and other school faculty also feeling anxious while preparing themselves. Just like the characters in the book, (hopefully) we've also experienced the relief that comes after the first day is over and we realize everything is going to be ok. show less

"First Day, Hooray" was a cute book about the first day of school. Usually, books like this talk about the child getting ready for the first day of school: getting uniforms, school supplies, getting nervous, etc. I liked this book because not only did we see a child getting ready for the first day of school, but we also got to see the teacher, the principal, the bus driver, and the custodian all getting ready for the first day. All had different tasks they needed to do in order to prepare for school and make sure everything was ready and in place. This is a perfect book to ready to children right before their first day of school. I think it's good for them to see not only do they have to get ready and prepare, but others have a lot of show more work and preparation to do too. Nancy Poydar did a wonderful job on the big, colorful, lively pictures in this book. I definitely will be getting this book one day to have in my future classroom to read to my students on the first day of school! show less
This book relates to all grades in a primary school (K-2). It is the first day of school and everyone is getting ready. The teachers, students, and parents. They all have alot of worries and preparations on their minds but they're all concerned about different things.
