Yvetot, un domingo de verano de 1950. En una calleja, una conversación entre dos mujeres, la madre de la escritora y una clienta. Cerca de ellas, revoloteando, una niña de diez años presta oído disimuladamente. Es Annie Ernaux. Memorialista de su propia infancia, Ernaux recrea en La otra hija unos hechos que introdujeron por azar en su vida un misterio perpetuo, persistente hasta el punto de llevarla a visitar en 2009 la casa donde nació (la primera vez desde 1945) incluso antes de emprender la redacción del libro, y a especular sesenta años después sobre el sentido de aquella revelación. Pero ¿quién es la otra hija? ¿Es la hermana que no conoció y que murió trágicamente de difteria a la edad de seis años o es ella misma, una niña poco amable según su madre?

come faccio a farvi capire quanto bello sia questo libro.
Ho paura di non trovare le parole giuste, di non riuscirvi a trasmettere quanto sincero e intimo sia questo libro e di quanto mi abbia toccata.
Letto in tre ore, poche pagine, spudorate, che mettono a nudo quello che una bambina prova nel venire a sapere, per caso, di avere avuto una sorellina e di quello che questa
scoperta comporterà nella sua vita
"Non ti posso mettere dove sono stata io. Sostituire la mia esistenza con la tua".

Annie Ernaux découvre très tard par le hasard d'une conversation qu'elle a eu une soeur qui est morte jeune. Ses parents ne lui ont jamais dit. Elle relate dans ce petit livre son ressenti face à cette soeur ignoré, sa place dans cette famille endeuillée, le sentiment de ne pas être celle que ses parents auraient aimé.
Un livre intimiste. ( )
