Decent novella set between books 3 and 4 of the Kate Daniels series. Told from Kate Daniels' best friend Andrea's point of view. ( )

The first time I read Magic Bites I didn't get why there were so many rave reviews. I mean it seemed pretty average. The world building was cool and Kate seemed alright but a bit standoffish. The romance between Kate and Crest was mediocre - it seemed like she didn't like him at all and it felt forced and awkward. The romance between her and Curran wasn't any better. It didn't make sense why he followed her home while he was on his date. I liked Derek and Ghastek was creepy. There was lots of snappy, witty dialogue and I had a few laughs - but I was just confused. It was good but it wasn't great.

Yeah - read the rest of the series. It gets SO MUCH BETTER. Kate stops being standoffish and starts letting people in. Derek becomes a total badass. Ghastek - well he's still pretty creepy. But also funny and kind and sweet when he wants to be. And Curran - I love him now. He is an absolute ass in this first book. But I forgot. He becomes everything you want in a love interest. There's a ton of new loveable characters; Julie, Andrea, Aunt Bea, Raphael, Barbaras. Some new evil ones; Hugh, Roland. So much action and adventure and intensity and laughs.

So do yourself a favour. Keep reading.

This is a funny little story about Raphael and Andrea working together. Pretty much nothing is resolved though. We also get a small glimpse of Kate - who's reading up on cats in preparation for Curran - and busy making an apple pie for her dinner date. And the apple pie is made from immortality apples which is hilarious. ( )

I read this novella to answer some questions I had after reading the most recent Kate Daniels novel (namely, who the heck is Teddy Jo?). It was a happy surprise to get an Andrea/Raphael story, which I hadn't realized when I picked it up. I loved Gunmetal Magic, and it was great to get another story from Andrea's POV.
The relationship business felt like it moved rather quickly, but maybe that's because it's been a while since I read Gunmetal Magic, and I don't know where exactly to place this story in relation to it.
The abrupt switch to Teddy Jo's POV at the end was kind of jarring too.
This wasn't as good as one of the novels, but the Kate Daniels world is always a fun place to hang out. ( )

I love all the books in the Kate Daniels universe and especially the ones about Andrea and Raphael! In this one, thereā€™s a scary dog-creature up to no good, someone behind it, and Andrea and Raphael will have to examine their issues as they team up to fight it. Delicious and action packed.

Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader. ( )

I sat in a small, drab office, one of many in the Atlanta chapter of the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, and pretended to be Kate Daniels.
