An fine one-volume history of the Napoleonic campaigns. A worthy supplement to Chandler's The Campaigns of Napoleon. Filled with excellent tactical details, and describes the hellscape of war, with disease, pillaging, hordes of prostitutes following the army, the long slow death of the Russian campaign, etc.

Gives miniature biographies of numerous figures, from generals to medical men to royals. Describes aspects which are only too often neglected - e.g., The Spanish campaign. Another interesting note - the author particular attention to the war medicine of the era.

A fine one-volume history - Chandler edges it out barely, but still a worthy read.
