The Secret at Pheasant Cottage (Patricia St John Series)

One of St. John's shorter novels, but one of my favorites growing up. Still, I missed a great deal of the forgiveness theme among the adults in the story. I was delighted when rereading it as an adult and found that it weathered well.

Raised by her grandparents, Lucy starts a search for her father that takes her from a prison in England to Spain. Along the way she learns about love, forgiveness and God's grace.

Lucy, why do you live with your granny? Why don't you have a proper mummy and daddy like everybody else? Suddenly I knew that the question had been there a long time, buried deep and never asked, and that there was no answer.
