What do I want to say since this finishing, this amazing series? I'm in love with Fablehaven. I want to go live on a preserve. I wish I was fairy kind or at least fairy struck!! I want to know a Unicorn's avatar! This series was really one of the most UNIQUE tales I've ever read and I'm sorry for it to be the end.
First set of books full of magic and the struggle of light and dark in the book sections of Young Adult/Fantasy that have literally captured my heart and riled my imagination to splendorous new heights since I finished reading THE HARRY POTTER SERIES BY MS. J.K. ROWLING.
This series is meant for a younger set of readers. YES. The series stays in the level of 9-12 through all 5 books. BUT I still am in love with it. It is has show more become among the second of my all time favorite YOUNG ADULT FANTASY SERIES. I don't if it is exactly second to tell you truth. It actually may enter a co-first spot with my dearest series ever, Harry Potter.
Mr. Brandon Mull, like my other favorite author you have a skill of not just weaving a wonderful tale through several books. At times just like in Ms. Rowling's fantasy books, the words you wrote are the REAL and PUREST magic the world can ever expect to know! Mr. Mull, you are the second writer to do this to my eyes. Your imagination is full of folktales, myths and legends with a side of ancient history all used and twisted to make them your own. Your imagination is full of humor, depth, and an appealing charm I can't shake off. I'm reading your Fablehaven Series. I've rarely been so completely enthralled. Every single time I read begin reading I am transported to the dimension where Kendra and Seth live. I feel like a stowaway in on there adventures. Oddly enough I am sort of like Bubda. An inveterate hermit (though hopefully not a bit "trollish" But I suppose it would depend on WHO you ask.) whom loves books. I have a particular love Young Adult Fiction. Maybe that is because when I was a Young Adult I was too busy reading books much too grown up for my age. And now that I am 31, with all those very real grown up responsibilities....it feels good to read Young Adult Books on occasion to go to worlds of fantasy.
It's incredible really. I'm done with my Kindle version of Fablehaven: The Complete Series (Fablehaven #1-5) and just like when I began the Deathly Hallows, I'm a little sad...and dragging the book out. I'm SAVORING the last book because you may never write another book about Fablehaven. And it's your choice never to write about that wondrous world again. But I honestly think it would be a worthy endeavor. So would many of your young fans (and "older" like me alike). show less

Absolutely loved every title in this series! This 5 book series took me quite a while to finish but, mostly, cause I didn't want it to end. The world that Brandon Mull created in these books is impressive and I became easily attached to these characters. Now that it's over I will miss them but what a fantastic job of finishing up a series. Highly recommended!
Summary:
Fablehaven is a series of five books about a girl named Kendra and her younger brother Seth and their adventures in Fablehaven. Fablehaven is a wild magical haven their grandparents manage and protect. The first book starts the story with Kendra and Seth visiting their "weird" grandparents they hardly know in the middle of no where while their parents go on a cruise. At first their grandparents hide the reality of the magical creatures, but curiosity got the better of Seth and their grandpa told them about the magic and the magic milk that allows them to see the magical creatures for example a fairy without the milk looked like a butterfly but with the milk they can see a fairy. The magic world has basic guidelines or rules if show more you leave them alone they will generally leave you alone and if you don't do harm then harm won't come to you. Seth's extreme curiosity got him into trouble and in turn put his family in danger as well. In the end Kendra saved the day with the fairy queen blessing and her innocence counteracted her brother's curiosity and adventurous nature. The following books have new adventures that Seth gets them in trouble while Kendra ends up saving them.
Personal Reaction:
I personally enjoy fantasy books and movies. I like to push my imagination by reading about things I can't see every day. This set of books were fun, but also showed how much you can effect others by thoughtless actions like Seth. I also enjoyed the courage and inner strength Kendra shows over and over again and her ability to forgive her brother for his harmful actions. They balance each other out very well.
Extension Ideas:
Since it would be an older group of kids to read the book to it would be fun to have them draw items they see around them and they have a special snack of "special" milk. After the snack they can go back through their drawings and redraw them with a magical change and compare with the class.
Have the kids discuss the decisions that Seth made and how they affected the people around him.
Also have discussions on how Kendra was able to forgive her brother and similar situations that the students might have had with their siblings if have siblings. show less

Fablehaven by Brandon Mull. A brother and sister discover that their grandfather is the caretaker at a wildlife reserve for mythical creatures. The first book in a series: wonderful premise, great characters, page-turning adventure. Grades 4-8.
This is a great collection of stories. I would like to live in Fablehaven!
2nd time around. Still love these books!
