I don't know much at all about succulent plants but I am very interested in plants, wild plants and unusual and/or edible or medicinal species in particular. This book was not only a great introduction to succulent plants, but a detailed narrative about individual and groups of succeulents favored and particular environmental, temperature, light, water, elevation and other growing conditions replete with beautiful photographs of these strange and highly specialized life forms. Going way beyond the familiar cacti and hens and chicks of common familiarity, this is the sort of book you stumble upon and are left with that awed sense of amazement at the sheer variety, complexity and miraculousness of life on our planet. From the all-around nature lover to the horticulturalist to the hobby gardener or succulent enthusiast, this book should please. It would be a good addition to a botanical garden's library, especially one that features succulent or dry environment plants. ( ) no reviews | add a review
The plants are organized into 28 intuitively logical groups, such as succulent euphorbias, mesembryanthemums, bulbs, succulent trees, aloes, agaves, and haworthias. Each entry includes information on the plant's native habitat, its cultivation requirements, and its horticultural potential. As useful to novice growers as to collectors and those with an existing interest in succulents, this will be the standard reference for years to come. No library descriptions found. |
