Long Time Coming

I liked this audiobook, read by Susan Denaker. However, while it had a lot going for it, I'm not inclined to give it more than 3 stars. The words that came to me towards the end was - where was the zing! Not very articulate I know.

Loved the fact that it was short and sweet and not quite 6 hours. It's the story of Marnie Hibbs and astronaut! Law Kincaid.

It was a pleasure to have someone read at a more leisurely pace. Susan Denaker is an accomplished narrator but I didn't love her voice.

Long time coming was a wonderful read. The characters were regular people one might meet in their own neighborhood. The harsh truth of her sister’s actions from the past which shaped all of their lives was refreshing. It was believable and brought out compassion within me. I loved how this book was not a sugary, romantic perfect ending. It had genuine life in it. The steps they all took to arrive at the ending was not hurried or slow motion, but perfection. The younger sister’s life was changed the most. To love one and know your sister was the one he favored and then to find yourself raising his son as your own, to deal with the sudden threat that you might lose him, keeps the reader turning pages with tears, smiles and the want to show more jump in the pages with them and tell them what you know.
My cousin won this via goodreads and was kind enough to allow me to read it last night. It is a book I thoroughly enjoyed. show less

This is an oldie (1989) and it shows a bit but I loved the hero who was an astronaut. The heroine was a bit too self sacrificing but it still worked for me. The plot had a twist on the old secret baby storyline. I usually hate those but this one didn't make me run screaming. (Grade: B+)

As I am sure many of you know, Sandra Brown has written quite a few novels for Harlequin. Those books tend to be pure romance with the formula of boy meets girl, they hate each other while secretly loving each other, then at end they love each other. There isn't much more to the story than that. Then Sandra Brown started writing really good stories that were romance and mystery. Well, this one starts out as though there is a mystery. Someone is writing threatening letters to Law Kincaide, a famous astronaut. The return address is that of Marnie Hibbs, who of course did not write the letters. There is no mystery as the writer is found out early in the book.

This was not my cup of tea as I do not care for pure romance. I want some mystery show more (which I thought it had) or drama or something more than just romance. show less

It was a good light read, easy to get into. In fact I read this book in 1 sitting. Good book to take to the beach!

This is quite a short book and an easy read too. If you like a good story with a predictable but nice ending, then this is for you.

Long Time Coming by Sandra Brown
Marnie is raising a teenager and is working on an advertisement for a freelance job when the astronaut comes to her house and wants to know why she's been sending him letters that he's the father of her child. They had met back 14 years ago one summer when their families summered at the beach. Law had gone out a few times with her sister and she did have a baby, David later dying in a car crash. That's how got to raise her sister's child. Her mother was in a local nursing home and the expenses were adding up. He spends time in the area to get to know his son and her, he would've remembered making love to her. After the test he does confess to her that he is the father and they need to talk more. He finds show more out a lot more when he looks through the family albums and Marnie tells him of her sister, Sharon and when she got pregnant and had the baby. Pictures of David as a child.
Marnie solves the mystery also of who's been sending the letters to Law. show less
