This was excellent. I knew (partly from the jacket copy) that the husband was up to something. I don’t wonder at her blocking out the revelation of her daughter’s abuse at his hands. Subsequently she blocked out the memory of her fight with her husband, too.
None of her friends could take her seriously and the woman her husband employs to keep her drugged and in line was a real bitch. In the end though, she helped Jane get her husband.
Things moved so quickly when Jane was on the run after she stopped taking the drugs hubby forced on her. The dodging and hiding around her neighbor’s garage. The gradual piecing together of her memory was very good. Made me start to try to piece things together myself.
Another thing she did well was show more portray life from the point of view of a person who remembers nothing of who or what they are. Amazing. Terrifying. Her going from store to store buying clothes and wearing them out because there was blood on the ones she was wearing. Her dismay at being approached by a total stranger who says he’s her husband. Trying to figure out why they would keep her daughter away from her. He was so slick. I wanted to bash his oily, smiling face in. She got him in the end though. show less

Well written; however, I feel that the author felt the need to suddenly wrap up the story and could have done it a few chapters sooner than she did.
The plot was incredibly inventive and over the top. Never in your wildest dreams imagine why Jane can't remember who she is. But, there were some parts of the book that could have been cut, because the dialogue was repetitive or meaningless to begin with. Some of the characters repeated themselves alot. Oh, and did I mention some of the characters repeated themselves alot.
Jane Whittaker has awakened to a nightmare. She doesn't know her name, her age . . .or even what she looks like. Frightened and confused, she wanders the streets of Boston wearing a blood-soaked dress-and carrying $10,000 in her pocket. Her life has become a vacuum -- her past vanished... or stolen. And all that remains is a handsome, unsettling stranger who claims to be her husband, whispered rumors about a dead child whom she cannot recall, and a terrifying premonition that something truly horrible is about to occur. * Slow in spots, but otherwise an engaging read.
Book was pretty good but I felt like it went on too long.
Kind of repetitive but I finished it.
