The present timeline of this was all over the place as were some plot points, but I can applaud Michaels for making me hate a character as much as she did.
Saw a review that said this was a total miss - couldn't disagree more! The plot is very involved, lots of good and bad characters, secrets, tragedies love, friendships, and family dramas. I was up most of the night reading/listening to this story and feel that I must read it again because I feel I missed somethings. When you get so tired that you fall asleep while reading, it makes a second reading necessary.

Pear raised all 4 children from different parents. The spoiled one all the others thought was the born daughter to the parents residing at the estate was really adotped and half black. She turned out to never change in her needy ways, even though the others went out of their way for her. Brody thought he was black and as it turned out he had 2 white parents. His mother died at child birth and the real father (Pearl worked for) took him in. The other 2 girls had "run-around" mothers.
Filled with surprises, secrets, wonderful characters. The surprises just keep coming.
Excellent reading!!!
Unique book with unusual twists and turns.
