I have always been a fan of Arthur books and this is one is very cute, too! The language and plot are fun and engaging. I feel that the author uses events and ideas that kid in K-2nd grade can really relate to. For example, the children in this book have to go to swim lessons! Also, I felt this quote resembles something that children would find humorous, “They bought 6 chocolate Twinkies and 2 cans of strawberry soda and then thought about what to do next.” The main messages of this book are friendship and responsibility.
This was a great book to read to kids to talk about different safety situations. Arthur was going to ride the bus which he was scared about therefore asked a friend. They fell asleep and had to get off the last stop and did not know where they were. You could ask children in the 2nd or 3rd grade what they would do in that situation. They handled the situation in the correct way.
As a huge fan of the television series, I was greatly disappointed at the lazy and sub-par writing of the books. The illustrations are very poorly done as well (especially if you have older editions of the books). Not good. just watch the show; it's on at seven on PBS every morning.

Arthur and Buster get lost from the parents and they think they are old enough to handle it. It turns out though they needed their parents more than they thought they did. It is a great book to show children you should never wonder off by yourself.
In this story Arthur and his friend Buster take the public bus to swim practice but they fell asleep and got lost. They remained calm and asked for help and everything turned out okay. This would be a great book to read to students to teach them what to do if they get lost somewhere. As a class you could talk through different scenarios after the book to decide what would be best to do if it really happened (ex: lost in a grocery store). This book could really be read to students ranging from kindergarten to about second or third grade.
Kindergarten-Grade 3 - Arthur and Buster get lost when they take their first bus ride downtown to go swimming. But during the ride they are so busy talking, reading, and sleeping that they miss their stop. Then they spend all their money on a snack and need to put their heads together to find a way home.
Arthur has to take the bus to swimming practice. Arthur invites buster to come on the bus with him. Things don't turn out as they had planned, and they get lost. Arthur and Buster have to find their way home. Arthur realizes just how scared he was, and is grateful to be back home with his family.
