A reprint, published in 1924, of a book that originally came out in 1805. The book is fairly simple, and walks a reader through a number of noble and high (and even not-so-high) ranks in British society, inclusive of the military, the law, the Church of England, and various gradations of nobility. It's enlivened by a number of nice colour plates, as well. Whether or not the poet Charles Lamb did or did not write this book is a point of dispute; as the full title of this edition notes, the press of the 1920s attributed the book to Lamb, based on some conjectures in Lamb's surviving letters. The true authorship remains an open question, though in this case, I've chosen to run with Lamb. A curious snapshot of British society as of the Regency period.
