(read in 1940) I remember I thoroughly enjoyed this book when I read it in 1940. In the June 1891 issue of the Catholic World the note on this book says "Percy Wynne is full of stirring scenes that in less skillful hands would have deteriorated into melodrama. The scene which depicts the death, by a military track, of the anarchist who has tried to rob Percy exhibits decided power and a strong powerful reticence." . The book is described as a story of exceptional merit. ( ) no reviews | add a review
In this volume, Tom Playfair meets a new boy just arriving at St.Maure's. Percy Wynn has grown up in a family of 10 girls and only 1 boy--himself! His manners are formal, he talks like a book, and he has never played baseball or gone skating, boating, fishing, or even swimming!Yet he has brains, courage and high Catholic ideals. Tom and his buddies at St. Maure's befriend Percy and have a great time as they all work at turning Percy into an all-American Catholic boy. No library descriptions found. |
