A mostly entertaining, but not exceptional detective story from 1923.

Except for the ridiculous racism that comes out of left field that is. I’m not talking about words from a character, I mean the author describing one of the main characters as “a stupid, dirty Italian” for no apparent reason and make a similar comment almost every time he appears. One of those books where everyone’s race is mentioned constantly.

One of my fascinations is how quickly things disappear, and how history is so unreliable because we can’t even remember things from our lifetimes. This woman apparently wrote 60 novels during her life, but you’d be lucky to find any of them even used, or even much about her. People must have enjoyed the books or they wouldn’t have kept publishing them. ( )
