MAGIC IN THE WIND is a 103-page story that kicks off Christine Feehan's Drake Sisters series. I first read this a long, long time ago, before I even knew what a book blog was. :-)

This book introduces the Drake family, a tight-knit group of seven sisters with awesome magical abilities, powers to control earth, water and air. Though we get to meet a few of the sisters in this book, MAGIC IN THE WIND is Sarah's story.

Sarah is the eldest sister, and she's come home to Sea Haven on a special assignment for work. Her path crosses with the new man in town, brooding and reclusive Damon Wilder. Damon's in hiding from terrorists who nearly killed him months before, leaving him badly injured instead. Neither Sarah nor Damon is interested in a show more romantic involvement, but Drake family magic has other plans in mind.

I enjoyed this book and thought it was an intriguing opening for the series. Though short, it's packed with romance, suspense and magic, three of my favorites! Damon and Sarah had a serious case of insta-love, and I thought their relationship could have been developed more. Of course, the speed of their attraction could be blamed on magic, so I'll let it slide. ;-)

I'm in love with the setting of this series - Sea Haven, a small town on the Northern California Coast. It's described as such a magical place, fitting for these seven sisters! I'm looking forward to re-reading the next in the series, The Twilight Before Christmas, just in time for the holidays.

It's been many years since I re-read this novella. I remember liking it, but not really loving it, the first time around. I have to say that's still the way I feel. Though I enjoyed quite a bit of it, I didn't absolutely adore it.

One of my biggest problems was the inconsistent way Sarah acted. she was supposedly a bodyguard, one of the best in security, but she often deferred to Damon, the man she was supposed to be protecting. Similarly, Damon knew he needed protection but refused to accept it from Sarah, because she was a woman.

Otherwise I did enjoy their relationship. They worked well together outside of their professions. I liked that both Damon and Sarah really cared about the other, wanting them to be happy and needing to be show more near one another.

The suspense plot was just ok. Considering the page count, I suppose I can't complain too much, but I would have liked to see things explored a bit more on that end.

This book is about perfect people experiencing perfect moments, perfectly understanding and complementing each other and so on.
The only conflict in the story is a twodimensional clicheé group of villains that only exist for the purpose of being the villains, never creating more than very mild tension.
And there is some supernatural thing related to fate and death for a bit of ominous atmosphere.
The book suffers from painfully awkward exposition.
Honestly, it's all ridiculously cheesy and cringeworthy and without any sense of real danger but as it is just a hundred pages long I actually perceived it as light and refreshing but in larger doses, this would become very tiresome and boring very fast. I can not imagine how 7 consecutive books show more of this could keep any interest. You would need to be hardcore softcore I guess. show less
I had such high hopes for this, but I was disappointed. We start out with Damon, a forties something "retiree" who's been injured physically and emotionally. He hears Sarah's name everywhere he goes in his new coastal town and is instantly drawn to her. This was a bad case of insta-love with absolutely no build up or interaction that even suggests the act of courting or falling in love. Another thing I disliked was the way Damon's entire personality changed on a dime. Perhaps this was the "magical" element to the story, but I thought he'd at least question what was happening. It wasn't clear.

The story switched POV's so often I couldn't keep up with who's thoughts I was reading. It became difficult to follow and confusing at times. I did show more like the magical elements, but I'm a sucker for "Mother Earth" and nature's magic. Anyway...I gave it a star for creativity. There was potential here on the fantasy side of things. show less
This short novel/novella begins the Drake sisters series. There are seven Drake sisters every generation and they all have interesting psychic gifts. Sarah is the oldest. She has precognition and works as a bodyguard. Her latest assignment is to keep scientist Damon Wilder alive.

Damon doesn't know why he came to Sea Haven. Something about the place appealed to him when he retired from his secret government job and needed to recover from the torture he suffered when he was kidnapped by villains who wanted his latest discovery.

When they meet, they are almost instantly attracted even while Damon hates the idea that he needs a bodyguard and hates putting anyone else in danger. Bur Sarah knows that Damon's arrival has triggered a show more long-standing prophecy - if she can keep him alive.

The kidnappers are on Damon's trail and Sarah enlists some of the residents of the quirky seaside town to help her find them. She also has the help of three of her sisters who arrive soon after Sarah does.

I liked the magic and I really liked the relationship between Damon and Sarah. The story was well narrated by Eve Bianco who managed both the pacing and the characterizations very well.

This is the first Christine Feehan book I've read, and for some reason I collected quite a few of her books... I'm hoping they get better, lol! This is the first book in the Drake Sisters series - there are seven Drake sisters and they all have different magical abilities. This book (really just a novella) focused on Sarah, the oldest sister, and Damon Wilder, a man who comes to town to retire (and to hide); I guess it could be described as a witch-romance. I found the romance to be unbelievable, and while the different abilities and interactions between the sisters was somewhat interesting, it just wasn't enough. Also, too much sex - I don't mind sex, but with a romance that is not believable.

Magic in the Wind is a light, both in tone and word-count, romance that begins the Drake Sisters series. Originally a short story, Magic in the Wind has been expanded into a novella slightly over one hundred pages.

As the first story in the Drake Sisters series, Magic in the Wind follows oldest sister Sarah's love story. This romance isn't perfect and probably needed more build up than the book allows. Magic is used to explain away the missing and much needed tension between Sarah and Damon.

I would have loved if it had been more in depth, but Magic in the Wind is a great introduction to the series. There's a powerful feeling of true love mixed with magic. We meet some of the sisters and see some of the powers without being overwhelmed by show more the whole backstory and cast of characters in the series. Not necessarily a must read for those who'd like to read later books in the series, but definitely short, easy and enjoyable. show less
