Once in the Saddle is an informational book about the Cowboy's Frontier. Each chapter tells a different story about different places and people. In each chapter there are excerpts and quotes from people that lived during the time which allows the text to go more into detail about what life looked like then. There are pictures and drawings from the period to go along with each of the short stories, some of the drawing are even paintings and lithographs. At the end of each chapter there is a little song with notes and lyrics. This book would be good for a 4th or 5th grade classroom and can be used for students interests. If students are already interested in this subject they can learn more about it or if they have an interest to learn about it in the first place, this book is a great resource for both of those things. The book is 196 pages long.
