Howard R. Garis was born in 1873 in Binghamton, New York. A popular author and journalist, he wrote many mystery and adventure books for children, as well as newspaper and magazine stories. His very first Uncle Wiggily story was published in The Newark News in January 1910, and was an immediate success.
