Of course, kids are well aware of how difficult they can be show more at bedtime. With Mansbach's new child-appropriate narrative, kids will recognize their tactics, giggle at their own mischievousness, and empathize with their parents' struggles—a perspective most children's books don't capture. Most importantly, it provides a common ground for children and their parents to talk about one of their most stressful daily rituals.

A humorous book in the style of a children's picture book wherin the father reading to his child just wants to get to sit on the couch with his wife and watch a movie. Every page begins as if it is a sappy children's book of the type given to a parent by well-meaning relatives, but are usually the last book the kid wants to hear. But in a twist, they all end with an exhortation to the child to "seriously, just go to sleep!" I found the original version to be funnier, but I could read this one to my 2 1/2 year old son who laughed at the end of each line and kept saying "like Daddy!" He's a bit of a smarta**.

After having just read Go the Fuck to Sleep, I found this sequel to be extremely lackluster. The theme of the annoyed parent is still present, but without the swear words the whole tone of the book lacks any sort of punch. Did they think that no one would notice that the words'story is reused almost verbatim, as are many of the pictures? Maybe they meant this to be the PC-version that parents can actually read to their kids, but blah..... Wouldn't it be better if parents had to figure out how to rework the original into an appropriate story, rather than just being handled the solution? Or even better, a book for just the parents!
Is there a person left on the planet who hasn't heard of 'Go the F**k to Sleep' from 2011? The book I gift to ANY adult who is even remotely considering having an angelic little baby. I would make it required reading for would-be parents planet-wide. Reading schedule starts at the prospective Mom & Dad's bedtime. Read repeatedly, quietly, loudly, pleading, begging, groveling, at wit's end, but continuously for at least three hours. Then go to bed and get up at your regular time and go to work. Do this for a minimum of one month. Then reconsider child-bearing options. Because babyhood is the easy part.

But why not let the unsleepy kids in on their wide-eyed triumph? So the F-bomb was edited out and this highly amusing little G-rated book show more is the result. "Seriously, Just Go to Sleep." A trophy book letting the little ones know they have won. Mom & Dad haven't a clue how to get the kid to sleep.

You win, kid. What a delicious thing to hear!

How often did you hear that from a book or your parents when you were growing up? No wonder kids love this book!
Read this book to them at bedtime. Then close the book, turn off the light, shut the door and go to bed. Ignore any sounds after this point - You may just yet get some sleep :-)

I was curious to see how this "clean" version of the book compared to the original, "adults-only", version of the story. The original, with its prominent cursing, definitely has a sparkle and energy that this revision can't match. That is not to say that the writing in this version is inferior. It might not have the visceral punch of a pithy f-bomb, but the substitutions work and the meter is good. However, by switching the languange, and therefore, the audience, the book develops a new emphasis which is surprisingly good. This is a book for parents and children to bond over in a we-both-know-you-know-all-the-tricks way. While being "found out" my disconcert kids at first, they will appreciate the respectful honesty. After all, one of show more our most basic human desires is to be recognized and known. show less

While not quite as awesome as the original Go the F*ck to Sleep, this version is definitely more child-friendly. My daughter loves having her own copy to match Mommy's copy (which is kept up on the top shelf). All parents should have a copy of this on hand for those nights when we feel like screaming "Just go the f*ck to sleep already!"

Seriously, Just Go To Sleep is the kid-friendly version of the brilliant satirical children’s book Go The F—k To Sleep. While the original book was a freaking hilarious read, it really was purely for an adult crowd and should absolutely not be read to an actual child. What makes Seriously, Just Go To Sleep so effective is that it can be enjoyed by all ages, while still maintaining the book’s overall message and tone, just by removing one swear word. A simple change from the original creates a genius new book that can be appreciated by parent and child alike. Highly recommended.

I read the original "Go the F**k to Sleep, and I prefer 'Seriously, Just Go to Sleep' slightly better because I have the option of reading the book to my toddlers. My two year old grabbed the original version for me to read, but I had to quickly distract her and hide it. The illustrations in 'Seriously, Just Go to Sleep' are beautiful, and any parent will recognize the stalling techniques used by the children in the book to avoid going to bed. It's easy to laugh at the kids' antics because we know them so well. The only reason I didn't give the book 5 stars is because some of the rhymes and meter are a bit awkward.
