This book was recommended to me about a year ago: I bought it, but haven't had a chance to read it until now. On a very long road trip, I opened my kindle, wanting to be entertained, and this book caught my eye. I was instantly engrossed, immediately intrigued. This fascination never waned throughout the entire story. I could not predict what would happen next: I had no idea how it would end, but I knew I was reading something very unique. The story of the two sisters, Annabelle and Margaret, became an addiction. I read every chance I got, finishing the book just as we were returning home a week later. Truthfully, all the characters in this book are mesmerizing. I was so afraid the author would forget about Joanna, but she does not! show more That's the biggest spoiler I will give.

Black Damask is not for the reader who wants a fluffy love story. It is dark, gritty, and sometimes shocking. And most excellent! show less
