Lovable geeks Danny Shine and his best friend Jasper attempt to gain social status and get even with the all-too-perfect Ty Randall. Even though Ty is relatively new to their school, he has everything Danny and Jasper don't have; good looks, athletic, kind, and a mission to help make the world a better place by getting involved in the community.

I seriously enjoyed this light and easy read. I would give this book 3.5 stars out of 5, and recommend it to our 6th grade students and possibly some 7th graders as well. I would say it would appeal mainly to boys, but I'm not sure on this point.

I could see using this book in a social skills group with 6th grade boys that have difficulties with relationships.

The author includes lots of graphics which provide a humorous touch and bring the story and characters to life. In only 230 pages the author introduces us to at least a dozen characters and brings this story to a fantastic conclusion.

On their way to ultimately humiliating Ty by encouraging him to perform his rap in front of the entire school, Danny and Jasper gradually learn how likable he is -- and realize they cannot allow him to perform his rap because people will laugh at him. I thought there were great lessons to be learned about how we can judge people without getting to know them. ( )
