Description
There has been a huge festival and no end of rubbish has been left behind - everything from umbrellas to shoes, drinks cans and bottles. Who would have thought humans could leave so much behind, not bothering to recycle? The Wombles have their work cut out for them.Tags

Let's just say it's not Beatrix Potter.
Popular in the 1970s, as books and as a television series, the fantasy animals living under Hyde Park are a sanctimonious (but humble) species devoted to clearing up the litter left by Humans (with suitable lectures on the subject). This episode concentrates on pollution, or Pollu (a pretentious neologism that perhaps resonates more with the Brits). Suitable for middle-schoolers, but not much of interest to adults. The stories could have been more entertaining with less preaching.

The Wombles are back, doing their thing. In this we have a swan that Tomsk saves and then become devoted to, Bungo tries being a hippy, Wellington discovers something, Orinoco solves an odour issue and the "ghost" makes himself felt.
It is charming enough. If one were to criticise it would be that the gentle environmental issue is pushed a little harder on this occasion, with pollution gaining a capital letter and being divided into sub-classes.

The wombles are some of the greatest children's book characters I have ever encountered. The books are smart, environmentally aware and fun! Suitable even for adults :)
