Description
The sea is calling, but the reluctant siren will do anything not to answer. . . .A year after the events that killed her sister and turned her into a siren, Vanessa is desperately trying to put her family back together and reclaim a "normal" life. But no matter how many times she swims, or how much salt water she drinks, she can feel herself getting weaker and weaker. She has no idea how to survive as a siren and she doesn't want to know the truth about her newly discovered identity. It's show more just too horrifying.
Then her biological mother shows up at her summer house in Maine--she is one of the Nenuphars, the most powerful of all sirens. She promises that she wants to help the daughter from whom she's been separated for far too long. But is she to be trusted? Now Vanessa must face the harshest reality of all--to survive she must endanger and injure others--but is that any sort of life?
Chilling and romantic, Dark Water explores questions of identity as old as the sea, and brings the Siren trilogy to a startling conclusion.

Tricia Rayburn mixes mythology, murder mystery, and romance in her phenomenal Siren trilogy. While I didn’t enjoy Dark Water quite as much as I did Siren or Undercurrent it was still a great read. The biggest question at the end of Undercurrent was whether or not Simon and Vanessa would be able to repair their relationship after the Parker incident. Watching the rest of Simon and Vanessa’s story unfold was truly enjoyable.
Even though the romance is one of my favorite parts of the story, it has always been a back drop to the sinister events that occur whenever sirens are in town, and Dark Water was no exception. While Vanessa took care of the siren issue for good, there are still quite a few mysteries in Winter Harbor that need show more investigating.
I have always been fascinated by Vanessa’s transformation into a Siren and how she has to cope with her body’s changes. Since Vanessa has relatively little guidance on this, it can be a real struggle for her. I don’t think she’ll ever really live a normal life as much as she wants to.
Dark Water wraps up the Siren trilogy really nicely. Even though Rayburn doesn’t explore Vanessa’s life after the trilogy ends, I have a good understanding of how she will do in the future. It is a very realistic ending, and I can’t say much more than that without giving anything away. I’ve truly enjoyed the Siren series and am looking forward to Rayburn’s next YA novel. show less

The plot was great but it had these moments where it would jump from one scene to another awkwardly or it would stay in a scene much longer than it should.

Winter Harbor is in Maine, right? So why on earth would a person traveling from Boston to Montreal ever have reason to go anywhere near the coast of Maine?
