Silly story with fun illustrations. ( )

In this story about a monster who needs a haircut but doesn't want to get one we find out just what is at stake when you let your hair keep growing. Stewart often finds things hidden in his hair because it is so long - like his friends glasses and his homework! He learns valuable lessons in knowing that you can change things about your appearance but that doesn't mean you can't do what you've always done which in Stewart's case is scaring people. Read aloud potential as these monsters are humanized with families and friends. ( )

I just love the artwork of Bethany Barton. It's so whimsical and lets children be creative in their own artwork and story telling. In this story Stewart doesn't want to get a haircut because he feels that his hair defines his personality. Children sometimes feel the same way about things they wear and so they identify with the main character as he goes on his journey about getting a hair cut. ( )
