I liked the first volume in this series so much I bought the rest, and immediately started "Death by Drowning." It did not disappoint me!
I especially like the strong female characters- though the men are well-drawn, too!- and the real-life type of murkiness in what happens and why. This murkiness makes the series head a bit more toward noir than cozy, which I appreciate.
Many of the review object to the "cliffhanger" endings. I do not agree. They aren't cliffhangers in the usual sense; they are parts of an overlying story arc. The actual mystery was resolved in both volumes.
And again, props to Keam for actually knowing about bees! The descriptions of swarming and collecting swarms were spot-on.
These are not cozies. While entertaining, show more they are not fluffy. If you prefer your mysteries cozy, you probably will not like these, even though I am finding them gripping. show less

Book 2 about Josiah Reynolds, beekeeper. It follows her recovery after her being pulled of a cliff. She now is always in pain, wears a hearing aid, uses a cane and has trouble remembering. She then gets involved in solving the death of a teenager that drowned in the river. An easy and enjoyable read.
Second in the series, I think the back story from the previous book should have been explained in fuller detail. Picking up and understanding where I was in the overall story was left to come out over too long a length of time. I think there will be a third book but I won't be waiting with bated breath as I do with other series.
