This book would be nice for primary or intermediate students. It tells a story using only pictures of a little community of pigs. One day a giant dandelion flies toward their village and they harvest and plant its seeds, a nearby volcanoe erupts and the village evacuates to a safe place, flying away on the dandelions they had planted. This is a helpful book because being a worldless book, students could create their own interpreations about what is happening within it. I would use this book in a ways that after we read it as a class students could turn to a partner and summarized what happened in it, and then as a class we could try to put our own words into the story.

This book was super cute with a community of pigs planting a dandelion seed that grows until it is very large. The volcano near them erupts and they have to evacuate their town on the dandelions. (It could be relatable for children especially in Oregon with having to evacuate because of the wildfires) This would be a great book for writing creative stories ( )

Primary, Intermediate; Wordless; This wordless book is beautifully illustrated with great detail and surrealism. A community of pigs plants a dandelion seed that lands on their island and cares for it until it is a large plant. When a volcano erupts the pigs evacuate, climbing up the plant with their belongings and using the plant's new seeds to float to a new, safe island. This story is a great picture book for primary students and a great story prompt for intermediate students to write about. ( )

I gave this book a 5/5. I gave it this rating because I like how short and simple it is. I have read other wordless picture books that go on and on and have so many events. This book has one main event, the pigs must move off their island because the volcano. I believe using this book won't confuse students. While doing a wordless picture walk you can ask promoting questions to try and get them thinking about plot. I also like this book because it goes by step by step. There is no part that pops out of no where. Each step comes from another. I will use this book to get them thinking "what do you think is coming out of the volcano?" This will help you see what their background knowledge is. You can also use this book to talk about specific vocabulary like "volcano" or "seed" ( )

The Giant Seed is a great book for helping students learn about the plant cycle which is why I would rate this 4/5 stars. This book is great for kids because it describes the importance of problem-solving while including science. The pigs in this story are able to care for and grow more dandelions while exploring other problems/solutions of growing plants. After the pigs plant their dandelions, a volcano erupts forcing them to have to evacuate their civilization. They do so on the seeds of their dandelions ( )
