Grace: More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Imagine

Description
Grace. We talk as though we understand the term. The bank gives us a grace period. The seedy politician falls from grace. Musicians speak of a grace note. We describe an actress as gracious, a dancer as graceful. We use the word for hospitals, baby girls, kings, and premeal prayers. We talk as though we know what grace means. But do we really understand it? Have we settled for wimpy grace? It politely occupies a phrase in a hymn, fits nicely on a church sign. Never causes trouble or demands show more a response. When asked, "Do you believe in grace?" who could say no? Max Lucado asks a deeper question: Have you been changed by grace? Shaped by grace? Strengthened by grace? Emboldened by grace? Softened by grace? Snatched by the nape of your neck and shaken to your senses by grace? God's grace has a drenching about it. A wildness about it. A white-water, riptide, turn-you-upside-downness about it. Grace comes after you. It rewires you. From insecure to God secure. From regret riddled to better-because-of-it. From afraid to die to ready to fly. Grace is the voice that calls us to change and then gives us the power to pull it off. show lessTags

If you've read anything by Max Lucado, you'll be pleased to know that this is as good as all the other books he's written. If this is your first Lucado book, you're in for a treat. He writes with knowledge, humor, and intelligence. You'll learn about yourself and about God.
This is another fine piece of work from author Max Lucado. Max gives vivid detail in a variety of forms concerning grace given by God as well as how we as humans can offer grace to others. These are short chapters and easy reading, yet very insightful and helpful to anyone who wonders if they ever deserve grace. Max gave me some new insights into grace and how impacting it is within a person's life if it is only allowed to work freely.
From the very first chapter Max lays the foundation of how God's grace can shape a person’s heart and life. He gives the reader great insight into how one can receive what is rightfully theirs as a born again believer. There is a quote from Anne Lamott that I found to be rewarding. She said: "I do not at show more all understand the mystery of grace - only which it meets us where we are but does not leave us where it found us."
Max shares a portion of his own life and how when one fails, God's grace is there more than able to lift one up and bring redeeming power. Also, when shared with others who are true believers, rather than bring condemnation, they will offer forgiveness and grace.
There is a very detailed reader's guide in the back of the book, for each chapter. This would be a fantastic study for a small group or Sunday School Class.

Hard to go wrong with Max Lucado...I've always found his books uplifting, inspirational, and very easy to relate to. This one mixes humor, real-life stories, and numerous examples of Biblical references to the power of God's grace, and how we can make the gift of grace work in our lives. We've followed this book in Sunday school the past two months and have really enjoyed it.
Of course this book was written in the author’s usual easy-to-read-and-understand conversational and sometimes humorous writing style. With a topic as important and as serious as grace can be, you might wonder if this worked well together. I can assure you, it worked very well together.
This book includes copious real-life and biblical story after story illustrating some aspect of grace, and some of them, well, keep some tissues handy! (By the way, that’s a plus in my view.)

This is a book to read by all followers of Christ. Grace exposed in a very easy to read way by Max Lucado.
4.2 Great set of reminders about the never-ending grace we have in Christ!
You can read my full review at Quieted Waters.
Readers familiar with Lucado will recognize his colloquial style in Grace. The book is full of anecdotes and stories, each chapter begun with a few quotes and an illustration. Lucado’s goal in these pages is not to educate you in a theology of grace or to catalog for you the Bible’s words on the subject; instead, he hopes to capture your imagination and encourage your heart.
