ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH .
That was me throughout this whole book.

This is the sequel to The Marbury Lens, a book I absolutely love. The thing is that I didn’t believe that The Marbury Lens needed a sequel, and I’m still not really convinced it did need a sequel.

This book had all the same elements that I loved that were in the first book. Andrew Smith and his writing puts me on edge, he has this way of describing things that just creeps me out. Smith could be writing about two puppies playing in a flowery meadow, and he could make it sound like the most vicious, bloodthirsty thing you’ve ever read. Its phenomenal.

Even though I didn’t think this book was necessary, I can honestly say I enjoyed it.

I recommend this to: show more people who read The Marbury Lens, and people who like creepy and unsettling, psychological books (but read the first book first). show less
I have some Serious Feelings about this book (and by extension this series), and it is going to take me a while to sort it out.

My instinct is to say that this isn't actually a YA book, simply because of the depth and complexity of the issues involved, but then again I've never known teens as fucked up as the ones in this book but I do know they exist and it's entirely possible that they would love the fuck out of this book.

The ending made me feel...well, very close to the ending of "Life on Mars," and for similar reasons. Right, and good, in a world where good is the best you can hope for because great is no longer on the table.
I have been on an incredible journey...first with The Marbury Lens and now with Passenger. I can't remember a story that has so frustrated me and so fascinated me. At this moment my stomach is churning after reading the last 50 pages of Passenger. If Andrew Smith writes another Marbury book I don't think I'll read it, because I don't want to go back to Marbury. Cause THIS IS IT! It just has to be!
Holy shitskas. Just reading the blurb makes my head hurt, but oh so good. SO EXCITED!
Actual rating: 3.5 stars. Like tML, this is going to stick with me a long time.
