Makeup to Breakup: My Life In and Out of Kiss

All I can say is WOW! I thought that Ace Frehley’s book was going to be the “tell all” Kiss book with the wild stories. This book screams past Ace’s with more sex, more guns, more drugs and more behind the scene lies and betrayals. He tells all the stories, from the streets to the mansions. I have to be honest, some of the items I would rather not have known. After all, these four people are very special to me (and I’m sure to millions of other fans) but “let the truth be known” and it is time to know the whole story. For years we have only heard half of the story and now (with this book and Ace’s) we can now hear the other half. Peter holds nothing back. He is hard on Gene, Paul and Ace, as well as himself. Half of show more Peter’s problems have been Peter himself, but I wonder how any of us would have handled the problems, situations and temptations that he had to deal with. Not my normal fare. Even when I was the right age to be a KISS fan, I thought the lyrics went "I wanna rock and roll all night, and PART OF every day...."

Understand why many readers think this book is too whiny for a guy who thinks he's so tough and brags so much about his big penis and having wriitten "Beth." Frankly I was bored and flipped through the pages....Gene is crass, Paul loves himself, they fucked me over, drugs, I banged another slut, poor me, more drugs, Gene and Paul fucked me over, Ace fucked me over, I got old and tired of banging sluts, still love drugs, Gene and Paul are mean and love money more than their band mates and fans. ZZZZZzzzzzz..... Made me want to watch Masterpiece Theater and listen to experimental new show more age Zen music until this story went away.

Fortunately, I picked it up again long enough to get to the end and found the story that made this book worth my time: Peter's story about being a man with breast cancer. Now that was something interesting, something new to me. I found myself touched with admiration for the straight up way Peter didn't bother with shame over being a guy with a girl disease, he went public to tell the world that he had caught it early and kicked it to the curb. Then he, apparently, has gone on speaking at breast cancer awareness events and bringing attention to the idea that men get breast cancer too. Way to go. I was actually surprised that the man who had irritated me with his selfishness and whining for so many pages stepped up, volunteered his time and thought about what he could do for other people.

They always say you shouldn't meet your idols. Let me add that you shouldn't read autobiographies by you idols either. This is perhaps one of the most depressing books I've ever read. Chapter after chapter whining about how Gene and Paul are mean, while abusing woman after woman. Chapter after chapter whining that his playmate wife who he left the woman who stood by him for, doesn't want to be with him once he's out of cocaine and money. Whining about Gene sharing information about his personal life because it will get back to his daughter while sharing more information then any child should ever know about their parent. The man just never gets it. Had to go back and re-listen to all my old Kiss records just to purge these images from show more my mind. show less
