A counting story for Christmas. The mice want to find a dry place to pass the night and they do so one by one. However, they want to spend the holiday together even more. They come together and find a place they share for the holiday. ( )

A counting and rhyming book tells the story of ten mice huddled together on a cold, winter night. After each mouse finds individual shelter, they decide that a hollow log big enough for all of them is cozier for Christmas. This is a sweet tale and an adorably illustrated book. The message of the story does not get lost in the educational counting feature. Although the story rhymes, the verses vary in length, and the rhymes are not restrictive or forced. Bin Lee’s soft-colored illustrations are richly detailed. For example, the mice have light dustings of snow on their fur, and the snow has a gentle radiance, as though the moonlight is shining on it. The illustrations have a snug, homey feel, just right for bedtime. It is such an enjoyable book for the winter season. It touches on the theme of Christmas, but it would not be considered a religiously themed book. Highly recommended for public and school libraries and home, preschool, and day care book shelves.
