This is a fantastic book to read in a classroom. The problem is posed as to how Roxanne will get to the beach with a list of things needing to go with her. With each page she is faced with something that prevents her from going to the beach and/or taking everything with her. This is great for intereactive reading, and allows the children to use their cognitive skills to see what things cannot go with her, and also provides them with the opportunity to find/brainstorm solutions.
My two-year-old grandson likes me to read this book to him, but he can never guess the answers to the questions. I don't care for that aspect of this book, but he likes the book anyway. Oh, well.
Perfect for storytime participation. The pictures are great, and kids love guessing what must be left behind.
Roxanne decided to go to the beach, but her car was not working. Roxanne begins to explore the different types of transportation she could take to beach, but they must find one that will allow them to take all of their stuff, even their turtle. In the end a nice farmer with a house and cart comes by and gives Roxanne and all of her beach gear a ride to the beach.

This book represents the genre realistic fiction because the setting is woven into the story and it is mostly true to life. A mother and her son take a trip to the beach and they contemplate what to bring/what not to bring.
I have such fond childhood memories of my mama reading this book to me and my little siblings. :)
This is the perfect book for preschool and school-age storytime
