This story brings light to how immigrant workers are and were treated within this country. Its a story of true change after Ce'sar's death after he fought for their many rights. I would say this book is for all ages. I just wanted to book to be written differently because it felt force for their rhyme scheme. ( )

These are biographical poems about the life of Cesar Chavez. They cover his entire life, birth to death, focusing mainly on his struggles to unionize farm workers and the creation of the UFW. The poems are accessible to children and show the discrimination he faced and the challenges he overcame. The book incorporates many Spanish words, has a more detailed biography at the back, and includes quotes by Chavez. ( )

Not only is this book culturally diverse, it teaches a history lesson usually untaught in most elementary history classes. In a time known as the dust bowl, it shows the perseverance of Cesar to live a better life and fight the oppression he and the Latinos face. This book teaches children leadership and resilience in a developmentally appropriate level. The small bits of Spanish help children to learn some new words in a different language by the use of context clues. This book is very well-rounded and teaches great character traits. ( )

Core Values to Cesar Chavez: Service to others, sacrifice, determination, nonviolence, acceptance, respect for life and environment, community, knowledge, innovation.

This is a book about the life of Cesar Chavez, each section written as a poem. All the poetry in the book is free verse with no rhyming words or stylistic language. The book is actually a biography but written in poetry form. The book also includes words in Spanish and the story of Cesar is written in a way that is appealing to children and can be taught in sections instead of all at once in classroom instruction. The illustrations are beautifully done and the plight of the farm workers that Cesar fought for is explained in language that can be understood and children can sympathize with.
