This story shows how pets can make great friends. It also shows how hard it can be to be patient and follow the rules, and to know when it is okay to break the rules. This is a good beginning readers book for kindergartners that are advanced in reading.

Very nice early reader that shows connection between a girl and her dog.

Adult Reader Reaction: This is a cute story, and the first time you read it, you get as antsy as Dixie. The author does a great job building the story with action and a bit of suspense, yet repeating sight words consistently enough to help readers keep going.

Pros: Young readers will cheer for Emma and Dixie in this beginning reader.
