Description

Two secrets. One bet. Who will break first?

Taylor Caldwell can't decide if she wants to kiss her new college roommate or punch him.

On the one hand, Hunter Zaccadelli is a handsome blue-eyed bundle of charm. On the other, he's a tattooed, guitar-playing bad boy. Maybe that's why Taylor's afraid of falling in love with him, or anyone else. She doesn't want to get burned, so she needs him gone before it's too late.

Hunter himself has been burned before, but Taylor's sexy laugh and refusal to show more let him get away with anything make her irresistible. Determined not to be kicked out of her life without a fight, Hunter proposes a bet: if she can convince him she either truly loves or hates him, he'll leave the apartment--and leave her alone.

But when the man behind Taylor's fear of giving up her heart resurfaces, she has to decide: trust Hunter with her greatest secret, or do everything in her power to win that bet and drive him away forever.

Readable but semi-ridiculous. Lots of telling, less showing. Dude-pro was too perfectly understanding and the chick-pro was abusive. If the roles had been reversed, dude would have been put in jail for all the physical violence. Understandably, the chick had lots of issues, but still, NOT OKAY. The verbal abuse was pretty bad too.

The writing itself was uneven but not offensively bad, though there were some rookie mistakes (to instead of too, frex). The sex scenes were SO BORING, which was especially disappointing considering that they don't even start until 75% through.

I need to stop reading self-pubbed New Adult, but [b:Easy|13548456|Easy|Tammara Webber|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1342983117s/13548456.jpg|19113823] makes me keep show more trying. Thank baby jesus for Amazon loans. show less
Okay, where to start? Let's start by saying that this book was fantastic. One minute I was grinning from ear to ear and the next I was laughing my head off. The characters in this book are not afraid to say what's on their minds, especially Hunter. He was a flirt, a little crude but not in a disgusting way. He is not afraid to ask for what he want's or take a dis or a punch from a girl. Of course, Taylor was nice enough and quick to oblige.

Taylor did not make it easy for Hunter's pursing of her. She was standing firm on her pact with herself to never get involved with a boy. Taylor was pretty angry and sometimes a bit hostile and doesn't give a crap what anyone thinks of her. He relationship or lack there of with Hunter, was at times show more pretty volatile, mostly on Taylor's side. I was happy to not have to hear a female protagonist deal with self-esteem issues this time around. Even though Taylor wasn't falling over herself from looking in the mirror she didn't put her looks down, just the baggage she carries around. Hunter has a hard edge to him, but underneath it all he was a sweetheart. Taylor and Hunter carries some heavy scars from their past that had a lot of influence on their prospects for relationships or at least healthy ones.

The premise of My Favorite Mistake has a lot in common with [b:Beautiful Disaster|11505797|Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful, #1)|Jamie McGuire|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1358259032s/11505797.jpg|16441531] but both stories have enough differences to stand on there own. There was even and addendum to the original bet later in the story. This book was a pretty hot read, the intense sexual tension between Taylor and Hunter was enough to drive me crazy. Taylor would have been too much to handle for most guys but Hunter was the perfect guy for her, he didn't have a problem letting her take out her frustrations on him. Love, love, love, grrrrreat book.

Ahhh, I loved this one.

At the beginning I had a hard time liking the female main character: Tayler is bitchy and at first glance not the most likeable character. BUT her snark grows on you and I continuously liked her more. You learn early on that something happens to her but it takes quite a while till you learn what it was exactly. I had my guess but it wasn't spot on.

Hunter on the other hand appears as goofy guy that has the usual "I'm a bad guy and refuse to fall in love but you'll still love me" routine going. I was glad to see that there's more to him and genuinely liked him for his facetts - don't get me wrong though: the guitar playing, singing and tattoos might have played a part as well ;). I especially loved his little show more quirks.

The chemistry between the two is obvious and I loved that Taylor didn't simply fall into his bed. There was more to it than a girl and a boy falling in love, it was also about learning to trust others, living with a past that might not be easy and growing into a strong person that can still lean onto loved ones in hard times.

Why are you still reading this stupid review? Go read the book - it's much better than my babbling!

I had the pleasure of receiving this book to review from Chelsea, specifically for this blog tour. I am almost 100% sure that I haven't been more happy that I decided to join a tour. This book seriously rocked.my.life. Then again, you pretty much know a book is going to rock when the very first thing you read is:

The first day I met Hunter Zaccadelli, I punched him in the face.

In this book we get to see Taylor & Hunter each battle their own demons. What an enthralling, bumpy and tear worthy ride it was taking that journey with them! & to think - it all began with college dorm room assignments. Upon finding out that Hunter was going to be her (and her friends) dorm mate - & their first meeting being just shy of a natural disaster, Taylor show more set out to get Hunter removed as her roommate. Hunter, however - has other plans.

What kind of plans, exactly? Let me give you a sneak peek!

“I want you. Right now. If you said yes, I would kiss you. I would kiss you until we both forgot that lips were made for anything other than kissing. I'd take you out of that outfit, as cute as it is. I want to see what you look like with nothing on. I want to make you sigh like you did with the cake. I want to be with you. Right now.”

He comes up with a bet. She can either prove she legit loves him - or legit hates him, by the end of the 1st semester. Easy right? - Yea; that is what Taylor thought - until Hunter started getting under her skin. She is almost convinced she has whiplash with the ping pong match that is there emotions that is constantly at play. Despite it all; the two form a friendship that has both its ups and downs, but also gets them through the good and the bad. Chelsea wrote a story that flowed effortlessly and literally keeps you turning the pages to see where she is going to take you. The chemistry is nothing short of perfect and I found myself laughing over and over again at the smart-ass/witty dialogue.

Cameron also wrote some very well sculpted secondary characters. The friends and family that stand behind both Taylor & Hunter help mold the story and made the transitions in plot that much more smooth. If you love your romance with a side of freaking epic - then My Favorite Mistake is def a read for you! Hot, addicting and heartwarming, Chelsea M. Cameron has written nothing short of an amazing story.

I went into with this book with high hopes and came away a little disappointed. It was super cute but it was a little too much at times.

I didn't really like Taylor. At first I thought I would like her because she takes no shit from anyone but I often found like it was a little over the top. Because you don't know Taylor's secret, you don't know why she acts the way she does. When you find out, it makes more sense but I still feel like she was a little abrupt with her thoughts and actions. If it was toned down a touch, I would have liked her more.

Hunter was a little too good to be true. Instant-love connection, understanding bad-boy, jaded background and nearly every other stereotypical "hero" aspect. I liked him enough but sometimes I show more just wanted to roll my eyes a bit at things he did. I would have appreciated a little more character development from his end.

I think that was my main issue with the book--nothing was overly refreshing or new to me. I had read similar stories before that seemed to have a higher level of maturity so this book wasn't up to that level which left me disappointed.

One thing about this book is that it is only told by Taylor's POV. The summary gave me the impression that we would be getting to see Hunter's POV but we don't. It would have been nice to have had his POV but it was a nice change from the shifting POVs most New Adult reads have.

OVERALL: I enjoyed the banter between the two of them and it was a super easy and quick read. It was nothing too exciting but it was a nice way to pass the time. Those just starting the genre and don't want too heavy of a story will like this one. However, I will not be continuing on with the series.

Note to self: always check the full extent of the shelves which a book has been assigned to before reading. I found this book very 'sweet' and I don't really do sweet. I also don't do 'college romance' books very much...because they're generally sweet.

Taylor Caldwell isn't happy but she's come to terms with the state of her life as it is when the book opens. She's in shared housing with 2 other girls and just waiting for their fourth housemate to arrive when he does. Just a tad unexpected.

Taylor has mega anger issues and boy does Hunter Zaccadelli enjoy pushing her buttons. He is constantly winding her up. There's one particular scene where Taylor tells Hunter that she'll help him do the dishes if he's "not an ass for the rest of the show more day". When the housemates are told about it their reaction is, "Is that even possible?" Yeah.. despite the amazing physical attraction between them both it just doesn't work for me.

So, some other bits that annoyed me. Taylor had a bit of a traumatic incident in her past (which is alluded to very frequently until it's revealed) which is one of the reasons for her anger and firm decision to not trust men. She finally tells Hunter about it and abracadabra the trauma is erased never to affect her again.

Seriously?!?

All I can say is I'm glad I didn't pay money for this one so I don't need to keep it. Not my thing at all.

Favorite Quote:
“His talking voice was amazing, but his singing was like honey and smoke had hooked up in the back of a van at a rock concert and had a love child. Smooth and rough at the same time.” (loc. 1283)

I remember liking some of this book, but I had issues with Taylor’s willingness to lash out physically against Hunter. She punches him in the face when she first meets him. Then, when she has a meltdown later, she blacks his eye! Hello! Abuse can go both ways! No one seems to bat an eye at her actions, but if it had been him this would have been a totally different story.

I read this in a day or two and now can barely remember what Taylor’s big secret was. I remember Hunter’s – I guess it was more memorable to me. show more Taylor is seeing a counselor, but she never talks about hitting Hunter, or her anger issues. Everyone is so protective of Taylor, and treats Hunter like he’ll deliberately hurt her. For all his issues, he’s actually well-adjusted.

I am curious about the next book in the series. I’m not sure how it’s related to this one, maybe just the setting. I’ll be looking for more character growth and fewer red flags. Hope it’s better!
