My favourite of all the contemporaries of Sherlock Holmes that ever were. Hagar, a beautiful gypsy girl, runs a pawn shop and the mysteries in this collection revolve around the objects that come into her possession. Without Hume and his earlier Mystery of a Hansom Cab there would have been no Sherlock Holmes. ( )
