Fair, Brown, and Trembling is the Irish version of the folktale Cinderella, with some changes made to the setting and characters, but the same basic plot line.
In other Cinderella stories it is explained why the main character is treated badly, but in this book it has never been explained why one of the children has to clean up, cook and wash the dishes.
Nevertheless, I really like the illustrations and colours of the book. It is made very fitting to Ireland, with lots of green in it.

In a unique take on the classic Cinderella tale, the Cinderella of this Irish folktale is Trembling. The text was very descriptive, I think kids would be able to easily picture everything described even without the aid of the illustrations. I think this is the closest a picture book can come to keeping with oral tradition. I can easily see this being remembered and passed down word from word. It's the perfect story to read aloud.
I found this Irish version of Cinderella quite interesting. Cinderella is not called Cinderella but instead is called Trembling. In the very known version Cinderella goes to a ball and meets the Prince. In this version Trembling goes to Church three days, each day wearing a more extravagant gown made by the hen wife who is clearly a witch of some sort. Originally Cinderella actually meets the Prince whereas in this version they don't meet until he's trying to find a woman who fits the shoe. He eventually finds her but then has to duel with other princes for 9 hours to win her hand in marriage All in all I was pretty interested by this version. It was fascinating to see a story I knew so well told differently.
Its about a girl named Trembling that lived with her step sisters and had to clean a house like for them. She wanted to go to church so her fairy godmother help her look beautiful. I like this book book because it was really different from the original story that everyone knows. I also like how they use the church instead of the ball to find the ball. I would use this book in my classroom because to show the kids that everyone tells a different story of Cinderella or any other story. I would say that this book would good for students between the ages of four and sixth.
This is an Irish version of the Cinderella fairy tale. The book is colorful and the pictures will entice young children. It is not, however, one of my favorite versions of the fairy tale.
This book is the Irish version of Cinderella. I liked this book because it wasn’t the traditional Disney princess type story. The reading levels for this book are first grade through fourth grade.
This story is the Irish version of Cinderella with Trembling filling the role of Cinderella and Fair and Brown as the stepsisters. The story is pretty much follows the same pattern as every other Cinderella story, but an interesting twist is that the fairy godmother character is a human already in the story.
This is a good example of a folklore because it is similar to other stories from different cultures, but it has its own cultural spin on it.
