The pace is steady but not fast. We do learn more about the connection between Micah, Trace and Samantha. The relationship between Micah and Sam is very intimate and enhanced by Micah's calling. The link between the three of them is complex. More than friends or family, but not quite lovers. The BDSM in the story mostly concerns Trace and how it is an essential part of their bond.
The first few chapters needed a lot more action and less repetition of Micah's thoughts. It was good, but could have been a lot better if it moved faster. (
