We don't like that the little girl's only friend is the overworked housekeeper, and that she winds up saving the child's literal life as well as her spirit & soul. But see the photo of the locket at the end? And the dedication? With true stories, we don't get to say 'that was a good ending' or 'that was a bad ending.' Lovely and moving memoir - made me sniffle.
What a sweet story about a little girl and her housekeeper and their special bond. I am not sure kids will understand the subtle ending, but my adult heart skipped a beat.
Sarah Stewart is a phenomenal author and this book illustrates that perfectly. It is a tale about a young girl who helps her nanny out with chores and at the end of the day they do something fun with each other. The illustrations are bright, kid-friendly, and illustrate the words that are written. I would recommend this book and all of Sarah Stewart's books to anybody for read-aloud and to own for personal pleasure.
Another great Sarah Stewart book, I recieved this from my daughter for Christmas. Her characters are people we fall in love with. Beatrice is a women we all wish for in our lives. This book also shows that simple pleasures are the best! We don't need to be on the fast track to entertain our children, just spending time with them is what they long for. Too bad Beatrice is not Belle's mother. But thank the Lord for women like her.
30 months - very well written and illustrated. Author and illustrator are able to convey more than just word and pictures in this one, it doesn't hurt that it was written from the heart. Maybe even a true story? I would read this one over and over.
Wonderful story about a neglected little rich girl and her caregiver, who is a real friend to her. Beautiful watercolor illustrations tell the story of the closeness between these two.
An inspiring tale of a young girl who helps her nanny complete their weekly chores, neglected by her parents, she is the constant companion to her nanny. This is a beautiful story of the love the nanny has for the young girl and the young girl for the nanny. One day the young girl goes down to the beach alone and gets caught in the water by a big wave and the nanny saves her. The friendship is a true and strong one that is tested when the girl’s life is put in danger.
