First, let me dispel any confusion. Readers who love Lisa Leake, author of 100 Days of Real Food: How We Did It, What We Learned, and 100 Easy, Wholesome Recipes Your Family Will Love (as I do), this is not the book you think it is: It’s not a cookbook of recipes for healthier versions of the snacks of your youth. Lisa would be appalled at these recipes.
What author Casey Barber’s cookbook contains are recipes to create the most authentic version of the snacks, sweet or salty or fried or chewy, beloved by your 10-year-old self. They’re all here! Oreos, Strawberry Pop-Tarts, Nutter Butters, Tater Tots, Sno-Balls, Devil Dogs, pretzel rods, even Goldfish crackers and Peeps! Plus much, much more, all made from scratch. That’s show more especially useful as some of the snacks no longer exist in stores or are not available year-round.
While your grown-up self will be appalled by all the fat, calories and sodium, be honest: Your inner child will be delighted!
